Samak Sundaravej is forced to quit September 9, 2008
Posted by blogerita in : Politics , trackbackBangkok : Samak Sundaravej’s problem never seem to end. From the day his People Power Party (PPP) won the general election in Thailand. he was beseige with problem after problem. When his party won the Thailand general election, he was accused of being Thaksin Shinawatra’s proxy.
Currently, he faced massive demonstration in Bangkok with protesters from People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) demanding him to step down. The protesters have brricaded themselves in the Government House compound for the past two weeks. There was no sign of giving up from either side.
Finally, Samak was defeated by the Thailand Constitutional Court who ordered him to quit his prime minister post for appearing in a television cooking show. With him stepping down, the Deputy Prime Minister, Somchai Wongsawat, will be acting Prime Minister. But this will not pacify the protesters. Somchai is Thaksin’s brother in law.
Thailand politics is going round in circles since Thaksin was overthrown by the bloodless coup in 2006.
